9 Funny Things About Table Tennis No One Talks About

by

If you were one of the nerds that had a lot of success in the chess club at school, guess what? You would probably excel at table tennis – if you could pull yourself away from your handheld device long enough to learn how to play. That’s one of the cool things about table tennis is that although there is some work involved, you probably aren’t going to log as many miles as you would chasing a real tennis ball around an actual concrete court. So, with that in mind, here are a few of the funny things you probably don’t already know about table tennis.

I Considered Letting Him Win

I’m sure there is a puzzled look on my face as I regard my friend Dean. He is getting a new ball from the ball boy who is picking them for us. This is the third time I am unable to return his serve. It is very fast and is packing a lot of power with it. A serious improvement on last month.

I was sixteen before I hit a single tennis ball

Jason, you need to hold on tightly to the baton and rest your entire weight on your left foot. That’s how you play. That’s how you frigging hit the ball!”

I could still remember the words fifteen years later. I was fourteen then and David, my father, wouldn’t stop yelling from a distance as I failed for the umpteenth time at my tennis training. I was supposed to be better. I was supposed to have improved since the last time I trained on the field but the truth was that, unlike the rest of the kids, I wasn’t strong or big for my age. I was lanky. The baton felt too heavy in my hands and I often felt as if my weight was being pushed off the ground by the evening breeze.

How I Won a Ping Pong Tournament

by

It all started because of my good friend Haru. I met him a few years ago and we clicked instantly since we had a lot in common. It was always just for fun, but that day I played with Haru changed my life forever. I went from just playing ping pong for fun to learning all kinds of things from Haru: he told me techniques, how to be patient, how to analyze my opponent. It was amazing how much he taught me.

Jan-Ove Waldner quotes, “I am standing when the ball comes, and that’s why I don’t have to move. I can read the game. ” Indeed, table tennis is one of the very interactive sports, which require a partner, though it needs a partner for it to be more interesting.  Lack of a partner or opportunity to practice has led to increased use of robot trainers. Today, many people are embracing table tennis robots to train and improve their skills. I will focus on my adventure with Robo-Pong 2040 robot trainer.

Robot helped me become better player

One thing that truly brought me solace was my love for table tennis. There were a lot of people that played a lot better than me, people that had been professionally coached or had been playing from their toddler days. They were good. They were really, really good. Nonetheless, table tennis was something that made me feel better about myself. It didn’t require any genius, any physical strength nor any grades to play the game, so I just used to stroke away every evening in the hope that I may be able to beat Matt Doherty. Matt Doherty was the table bully. He was a spoiled rich kid who had a personal trainer from the age of 12. He used to come, smack us all around and make fun of us before climbing on top of the table and doing a disgusting buffoonish dance.
